This is a beautiful vintage hat made mid century, 40s-50s. A little research told me that Ethol Hoteling lived in Kalamazooall her life. She ran a success millinery business until the beehive hairstyle and other changing times drove her to sell the business. She died in Kalamazoo in 2005. Gladys & Belle hats are scattered here and there on the internet and are all in styles similar to this one, but none just like it. This hat is woven ribbon, accented with seashell beading and rhinestones. There may be a bead or two missing, but it is hard to tell because there are so many. It’s gorgeous and unique. The obvious question is why two labels. I found some article written about fashion and according to them, larger fashion designers will attend shows and buy entire lines and sew their labels in the garments. I’m assuming something like this occurred with this hat. Thanks for looking. Message me with any questions.
